To make sure that you are actually able to successfully go through an interview and finally land up on your dream job, you need to avoid the following 6 mistakes that most candidates tend to do.

Improper Attire
You should always avoid attending an interview in casual attire, even if the workplace itself has a casual approach. By sticking to old fashioned formal wear, you will always stand the chance of making a good impression.

No Homework
Interviews are not only about you but also about the recruiting firm. So you should learn about your probable employers as much as you can. Google them, go through their website and read their blogs if possible. Interviewers often drop a question to see whether you’ve done a homework or not.

Incorrect answers to the “weakness” questions
When asked about your biggest weakness, you should not sound too pompous. Take a more grounded approach. Your answer should really show that you are well aware of your nature and not just showing off.

Not asking questions
Make sure that you have a number of questions ready to ask when you’d be asked by the interviewer to do so. Not having any question would mean that you are either disinterested or unprepared, neither of which looks good on your profile.

Criticizing your past or current job
Even if you have a strong reason to hate your last job or your current employer, you should not make harsh comments about them when you’d be asked the reasons for leaving your last job. This actually makes you look disloyal and vindictive.

Avoiding the salary discussion
Do not avoid discussing your salary as this can make you look unprofessional. Make sure you have a quote ready depending on your last drawn salary and the current median norm for the job post that you are applying.
